These are the soft cheeses that you will have to avoid: Feta, brie, Camembert, Gorgonzola, Roquefort and Mexican style cheeses and the others too unless it is given that the cheese is made from pasteurized milk.

Raw eggs

One important fact to be noted during pregnancy is to avoid raw eggs due to their potential exposure to salmonella. Also, foods containing raw eggs are also to be avoided. For example, homemade ice-cream, mayonnaise and custards may be prepared with raw eggs.

Smoked seafood

Smoked seafood, especially refrigerated versions is totally unsafe during pregnancy. In case you do want to consume seafood, see to it that they have been cooked to 1650F. also, you could buy canned versions which are quite safe.

Unwashed vegetables

Well, vegetables are healthy and you definitely have to eat them to stay healthy. But, it is necessary to make sure they are washed. Wash your vegetables before you eat them to avoid exposure to toxoplasmosis.

Caffeinated coffee

Well, it has been quite an argument among the experts on the amount of coffee that can be consumed by pregnant women. Caffeine can cross the placenta and affect your baby’s heart rate. Just for your information, an 8 ounce cup of tea has 47 mg of caffeine and an 8 ounce cup of coffee has 95 mg of caffeine. It is better to consult your doctor on how much caffeine is safe.

Street foods

Not all foods that are available on streets are said to be bad for a pregnant woman. You just need to be careful about the water used in the food and the hygiene. The main reason why one should avoid street food while pregnant is, once they consume street food, they usually fall ill as their immunity is low compared to other women. And not all the medications are good for the baby.

Green tea

Although green tea is good for health, you should avoid drinking it during pregnancy. Well, you might wonder why you should do so, and here goes the answer – consuming tea increases one’s metabolic rate. As the metabolic rates in pregnant women are already high, it isn’t advisable for them to speed it up.

Deli meat

Processed deli meats should be strictly avoided during pregnancy. It is known that these meats also contain listeria leading to miscarriage. In case you want to eat them, at least make sure that you reheat the meat until it is steaming.


Oily fish is good while you are pregnant but it might contain environmental pollutants. So, it is better if you eat only limited portions of it. Also, fish may contain mercury which can lead to brain damage and delay of growth.
