Summers are fun. The clear weather is perfect to go out and have an amazing time with friends and family. Most of us hit the beach, go on a picnic or simply explore places. One undesirable outcome of all this is the dreaded tan. It not only gives the skin an unhealthy, burnt appearance but also makes it itchy. The UV rays lead to the production of more melanin which in turn results in tan. Here are a few home remedies to help get rid of sun tan.
Papaya contains enzymes to help lighten the skin. It also helps in skin renewal and therefore removes the tan. Take a papaya and make a paste out of it by blending it. Then apply the paste on the affected areas. Leave on for around 15 minutes before washing it off. You could also make this more effective by using some honey. It helps in softening the skin. Just add a little honey to the paste before applying it. Repeat this every alternate day.
Milk acts as a natural skin cleanser and makes a great remedy for tan. It is also a natural moisturizer and leaves your skin soft and supple. The lactic acid present in milk aids tan removal. However, you should skip this one if you’re lactose intolerant. Take some raw milk and apply it all over your tan. You can do this with a cotton ball. Never use boiled milk since it usually doesn’t have any effect. Leave it on your skin until it dries and rinse it off.
Sandalwood contains natural oils which leaves your skin soft and glowing. It helps in skin-tightening and preserves the texture of the skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties relieve the itching and gives you a soothing feeling. All these make it a good remedy for sunburn and relieving suntan. To use it for your skin, you’ll have to make a paste out of it. Mix sandalwood powder with rosewater to a thick consistency. If you don’t have rosewater, you could use coconut water instead. Smear the paste on the affected areas and let it be for 30 minutes or until it dries. Repeat this thrice a week.
Strawberries act as exfoliating agents and get rid of all the impurities present on your skin. Apart from being natural moisturizers, they also help in lightening the skin. The folic acid present in them help in cell regeneration. They are rich in Vitamin C which keep your skin healthy. Crush a few strawberries to make a paste. Add a small amount of milk to it. Spread this paste on the tanned areas and leave it on for thirty minutes. Do this twice a week.
Melanin content leads to skin damage, tumors and other skin conditions. Turmeric contains curcumin which helps in controlling melanin in the skin. It also shields the skin from ultraviolet rays. An enzyme MMP-2 is the cause for skin damage and turmeric greatly helps in controlling it. There are many ways to use turmeric for your skin tan. One way is to simply use it with the sandalwood powder remedy mentioned above. Or, you could mix some honey with it and apply it on your skin. Another way is to mix it with milk and use it. Wash away after 30 minutes. Follow this 3 times a week.
