We all get those days. Where we feel so down and can’t get ourselves to do anything. The reasons might be many. During those days, taking a day for yourself might seem good. But then, multiple days together in a row? Although it is good to take some time out for yourself, you can’t make it a permanent remedy. If you find yourself low, angry or simply not feeling good, here are a few ways by which you can improve your mood.
There are studies which say that music helps a lot in improving your mood, even sad music. It lifts your mood and brings down anxiety levels. In the year 2013, a study which was conducted in the Journal of Positive Psychology showed that people who kept listening to upbeat music were able to improve their mood in a matter of two weeks. Being happy is also important for good health. So, put on some headphones, get that beat on and start grooving!
Try looking on the brighter side
This is very crucial if you want to stay in a good mood. You need to have positive vibes all about you. Most times, you simply feel lousy because you’re looking at all the bad stuff about a certain thing. So, you naturally start thinking that since it is going to bring you down anyway, you don’t really have to do anything about it. So, look on the brighter side of things. Make a list of them. Think of them whenever you feel yourself drifting away. This will not only help your mood but will also keep you active.
Get enough sleep
Did you know that sleep greatly affects your mood? You can observe for yourself sometime. If you have a sleepless night then you are likely to find yourself cranky for most of the next day. Also, it adds on to the stress that you’ll be experiencing. University of Pennsylvania conducted a study and found out that people who had very less sleep reported to be mentally exhausted and in a bad mood for most of the day. If you are limiting yourself the number of sleep hours, change it. Get around 8 hours everyday. If you’re facing any problem, it is advisable to talk to someone.
Take a Walk
Did you know that walking helps boost your mood better than running? Studies show that walking helps increase endorphins which are chemicals in your brain that make you feel good. Just take a short 20 minutes’ walk and you’re sure to be in a better mood for the next 12 hours at least. Make a habit of going for a walk every day. Around half an hour would do. It is also beneficial in increasing Vitamin D levels. Lack of Vitamin D can also cause depression.
Get some chocolate
Many studies show that chocolate is very beneficial in enhancing your mood. Even the smell and texture of it makes a person happy. Chocolate containing polyphenols helps with depression. Chocolate also increases the blood flow to the brain. So, always have some chocolate around. Whenever you’re feeling low or unmotivated or need some support, there’s always chocolate to the rescue!
