Psoriasis is usually seen on the elbows and knees and also the scalp region. It can also lead to discoloration of the nails. Red plaques are a common occurrence. If you are suffering from psoriasis, here are a few home remedies to provide you relief.
Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties which helps in blocking the molecule responsible for inflammation and also hinders the growth of psoriatic cells. Curcumin present in turmeric, which is responsible for many of the benefits of it, prevents the rapid growth of skin cells, hence preventing psoriasis. To use turmeric for your skin, mix the turmeric powder with some water and apply it on the affected areas. Wrap it with a cheese cloth and leave it overnight. You don’t have to worry about the stain as they are likely to disappear in a few hours. Repeat this every day.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar has many uses and one of them is relieving psoriasis. It is alkaline in nature which helps in balancing the pH level of the skin. Also, it is beneficial in preventing the buildup of dead skin cells on the skin. It has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties which are further helpful in preventing the infection. Dip a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and use it to apply on the affected regions. Leave it on for 15 minutes before washing off. Do this every day. Another way to use ACV is drawing a bath and adding a cup of ACV to it. Soak in the tub for 20 minutes every day.
With its ability to penetrate into the skin deeply, Aloe Vera has a number of benefits. it has anti-inflammatory properties which help in relieving the itching and other symptoms of psoriasis. It also acts as a great moisturizer which prevents dryness of the skin. Use the Aloe Vera gel and smear it on the affected areas, massaging it for a couple of minutes. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes before washing away. Do this 3 times a day to see effective results. You could also use the gel with milk and follow the same.
Honey is another anti-inflammatory agent which greatly helps in relieving psoriasis. It also has anti-microbial properties which prevent further spreading of the infection. It is beneficial in getting rid of the damaged skin cells and keeping the skin moisturized. To use honey for psoriasis, apply a thin layer on the affected areas, leave on for 30 minutes before washing it off. You could also mix honey with turmeric and milk and do the same. Repeat this procedure every day.
Oatmeal contains fats which keep your skin healthy. Also, it is known to reduce itching and swelling which are few of the symptoms of psoriasis. Moreover, oatmeal doesn’t cause any kind of skin irritation and is an excellent way to treat your skin. Add half a cup of colloidal oatmeal to your bath and enjoy a nice, long bath, letting your skin soak in it. After the bath, pat your skin dry and follow up with coconut oil. Do this every day.
