5 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Bad Breath

Bad breath can be an embarrassing condition. It results due to the accumulation of bacteria and dead cells on the tongue. Also known as halitosis, bad breath can also occur due to other factors like improper oral hygiene and consuming food which produces odor like garlic and onion. Here are a few natural ways to help you deal with bad breath.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon by itself has a fragrant aroma which can cover your bad breath. Earlier, we mentioned that bacteria is one of the causes of bad breath. Cinnamon contains an essential oil called cinnamic aldehyde which contains anti-bacterial properties and is hence effective in getting rid of bad breath. Take a cup of water and boil it. Add cinnamon powder to it. A tablespoon of it would do. If you don’t have the powder, just add a few cinnamon sticks to it. Strain the tea and drink this around 3 times every day. You could also use this water as a mouth wash, twice a day.

Lemon

The benefits of lemon are many. Being rich in Vitamin C, lemon helps prevent gum disease which can be responsible for bad breath. It also has anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties which do not allow the bacteria to persist on your tongue. Its citrus flavor stimulates the flow of saliva which flushes out the bacteria, thereby getting rid of bad breath. It is also very effective in getting rid of acidic residues of bacteria in your mouth. Take a lemon and cut out a piece of it. Suck on it for a couple of minutes. You can also chew on a peel. Do this frequently.

Baking Soda

Baking Soda is effective in neutralizing the acid levels in your mouth. This is in turn useful in eliminating the bacteria that thrive in the acidic environment of your mouth. Every time that you brush, add a pinch of baking soda to your toothpaste. Brushing this way twice a day is effective in getting rid of bad breath. Another way that you can use baking soda is with water. Take a glass of slightly warm water. Add some salt and baking soda to this. Use this to rinse your mouth. Repeat this two times a day.

Tea Tree Oil

The anti-septic and anti-fungal properties present in tea tree oil are again beneficial in destroying the bacteria in the mouth. Take a glass of water and add a small amount of tea tree oil to it. Add an equal amount of lemon oil and peppermint oil too. Gargle with this every day to get rid of bad breath. You could also add a few drops of tea tree oil to your toothpaste before brushing.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The malic acid and acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar is effective in getting rid of the bacteria that is responsible for causing bad breath. Moreover, apple cider vinegar also helps in proper digestion and thus prevents bad breath that might occur due to indigestion. Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a glass of warm water. Drink this every day before every meal. You can also use this water to gargle every day. Do it for a few minutes every day.
