Body odor makes people very conscious and also affects your self esteem in a negative way. Body odor is developed when the sweat produced by your body comes in contact with the bacteria. The acids present in the sweat are broken down by bacteria which results in body odor. Body odor is more common among teenagers since the apocrine sweat glands are developing during puberty which in turn increases sweat production. Other conditions like poor hygiene, nutrient deficiencies and other medical problems also lead to body odor. Although there are many deodorants available to help you mask body odor, they’re just temporary solutions. Home remedies help you by dealing with the root cause instead. Here are a few home remedies to help you deal with body odor.

The acidic nature of lemon helps lower the pH levels of your body, making it inhospitable for the bacteria to thrive. Lemon also has antifungal and antibacterial properties which help fight many microbes. It acts as a natural astringent and tightens the skin pores, reducing the production of sweat. Intake of lemon water gets rid of toxins in the body, thereby eliminating odor resulting from those toxins. The citrusy scent of lemon works as a natural deodorant and masks the unpleasant smell. Extract lemon juice into a bowl. Dip cotton balls into this bowl and use it to dab on your underarms and other areas of the body. Let it dry before you take a shower. Do the same twice a day. However, if you have sensitive skin, do not use undiluted lemon juice.

Baking Soda

Baking soda absorbs moisture content from your skin and hence absorbs all the sweat. It also acts as a natural deodorant. It is effective in lowering the pH levels of your body, thereby balancing the acids in the sweat produced. All you need to do is sprinkle some baking soda on the parts of your body where you sweat more. Leave it on for a few minutes, dust off the excess baking soda and wear your regular clothes. You can also make a paste of it and use the paste to apply on your body. Leave it on for around 10 minutes before washing it off.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties which help get rid of the bacteria on the surface of your skin. Moreover, it acts as an astringent and controls the production of sweat. Before using it, test and make sure that your skin is not allergic to tea tree oil or applying it doesn’t cause any sort of irritation. Mix 2 drops of tea tree oil to 2 tablespoons of water and stir well. Apply this on to your underarms and leave it on for a couple of minutes before washing it off.

Witch hazel

Witch hazel also helps reduce pH levels of your skin and kills the bacteria. Known for being an astringent, witch hazel tightens your skin pores and considerably reduces the production of sweat. Take a cotton ball and dip it in witch hazel. Apply on to your underarms and leave it on for a while until it dries. Do the same whenever your body starts to produce odor.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar prevents the formation and growth of bacteria on your body and hence helps prevent body odor. The sweat produced by your body introduces an alkaline environment which can be neutralized by apple cider vinegar. Accumulation of toxins in the body and improper functioning of the liver can also cause body odor. Apple cider vinegar gets rid of toxins in the body and boosts liver functions, thereby providing a solution to the problem. Use apple cider vinegar the same way you use lemon juice. Soak a cotton ball with ACV and rub it on your body, leave it on for 2-3 minutes before washing it off. Since it dries your skin out, follow up with a body lotion.

They are many myths about the cause for the occurrence of blackheads. Although many people agree that it is due to the accumulation of dirt in the skin pores, it really isn’t the case. Blackheads occur as a result of clogging of skin pores with excess amount of oil or dead skin cells. This can happen due to many reasons like hormonal changes or using clothes/cosmetics which aren’t suitable for your skin. Although blackheads are really stubborn and difficult to get rid of, here are a few home remedies which might help you out.

Lemon contains alpha-hydroxy acid which not only prevents blackheads but pimples or any other kind of skin problem. The citric acid in it is very effective in tightening your skin pores. Being a rich source of calcium, potassium and Vitamin C, lemon is excellent for good skin health. The natural oils in it make it a good exfoliant. Moreover, it helps reduce the oiliness of your skin and also brighten your skin complexion. Take some lemon juice in a bowl. Dilute it with water since direct application might cause skin irritation. Using a cotton ball, apply the juice over the affected regions and let it dry. Scrub it while washing it. Do the same around 3 times every day.

Turmeric has many healing properties and can be used to deal with blackheads. It helps by getting rid of the excess oil from your skin. It is very effective in regulating the secretion of sebum. Take some turmeric powder and mix it with 2 tablespoons of mint juice. Apply this paste onto your blackheads and let it dry for a few minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water.

Egg White

Egg white contains an enzyme called lysozyme which has effective skin tightening properties. This way, it also prevents sebum from building up on the surface of your skin. Moreover, the proteins in it is effective in absorbing all the excess oil from your skin pores. It also has amino acids and vitamins which help nourish your skin. Take a bowl and break 2 eggs into it. Separate and take out the egg whites. Beat the egg whites with a fork and apply this all over your face. Cover your face with tissues and apply another layer of egg whites. Let it dry and peel off the mask. Do this every alternate day.

Baking soda

Baking soda acts as a natural exfoliant and helps get rid of dead skin cells. It is very effective in balancing the pH level of your skin, hence controlling the production of oil. Make a paste out of baking soda by adding some water to it. Wash your face and apply the paste to your face. Massage gently for a couple of minutes and leave it on for a few minutes and wash it all off properly. Repeat this once or twice a week.

Honey is also another agent helpful in tightening the skin pores. Its moisturizing properties help keep the skin nourished. It has antioxidant properties which clear out the impurities from your skin and get rid of blackheads. Just take some organic honey and smear it onto your face. Leave it on for 10 or 15 minutes before washing it off.

Skin tags, medically known as Acrochorda, are commonly seen on the armpit region, neck, chest, groin region, eyelids and also the inner thighs. Until now, the exact cause of occurrence of skin tags is not known. However, some say that it is due to friction between the skin and clothing or jewelry. Obesity, hormonal changes, HPV, diabetes and use of steroids are also stated as other possible causes. Although skin tags do not cause any pain and are harmless, we all want smooth healthy skin, don’t we? Undergoing surgical treatments for these could be dangerous and also, expensive. So, why not resort to home remedies instead? Caution: If you have skin tags on your eyelids, consult a physician. Here are a few home remedies to get rid of skin tags.

Oregano Oil

Oregano oil contains the compounds thymol, carvacrol and p-cymene which are known to contain anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It also has anti-oxidant properties which help in getting rid of the skin tags. Mix oregano oil with coconut oil. This method is efficient as direct application of oregano oil onto the skin might cause irritation to some people. Apply this mixture all over your skin and let it dry completely. Do the same thrice a day. You could also use almond oil or jojoba oil instead of coconut oil.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is an excellent exfoliant that helps in getting rid of dead skin cells without affecting the rest of your skin. It helps the skin regain its elasticity and dries out the skin tag, making it fall off. It also has anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-septic properties, all of which are effective in getting rid of skin tags. Take baking soda in a bowl and make a paste by adding some warm water to it. Apply the paste on the affected areas and gently rub in circles. Leave it on for a few minutes before washing it off. Repeat this thrice a day for effective results.

Castor Oil

Castor Oil is an excellent detoxifier and is effective in cleansing the skin. It works by taking away all the moisture from the skin tags and making them shrink. Moreover, castor oil contains nutrients which make the skin healthier. In case you’re afraid that you might develop scars, you can scratch that off of your mind because castor oil doesn’t leave behind any scars. All you gotta do is apply castor oil on the affected regions. Let it dry for a couple of minutes. Repeat this multiple times in a day.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature and helps remove skin tags without leaving any scars behind. Instead of attacking the skin tags directly, it attacks the tissues that form it. This way, it breaks down the extra cells. After the tissues are destroyed, the skin tags automatically fall off. Since ACV treats the skin by going deep in, the skin tags are less likely to return. Apply apple cider vinegar on the skin tags and let it dry. Do this around 3 to 4 times a day.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil also contains anti-septic and anti-microbial properties. It has a drying effect and deprives the cells in the skin tags of blood and oxygen, causing them to reduce in size. It is very effective since it penetrates deep into the skin. If you have sensitive skin, dilute tea tree oil with water. You can also use it undiluted on the skin tags. Mix 3 drops of tea tree oil with water and apply on the affected area. Massage for a few minutes and wash it off. Do the same three times a day.
